Supplant \Sup*plant"\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. {Supplanted}; p. pr.
& vb. n. {Supplanting}.] [F. supplanter, L. supplantare to
trip up one's heels, to throw down; sub under planta the
sole of the foot, also, a sucker, slip, sprout. Cf. {Plant},
