plants, fr. ? to pour; for chemistry was originally the art
of extracting the juices from plants for medicinal purposes.

fundere to pour, Goth. guitan, AS. ge['o]tan, to pour, and so
to E. fuse. See {Fuse}, and cf. {Chemistry}.]
